South Asian matrimony in Europe: a practical guide

Why looking for marriage as a South Asian adult in Europe is its own situation, and what to look for in a platform.

Written by the Lagnora team at Sagous B.V. · Reviewed 26 Aug 2026

The short answer

South Asian adults in Europe usually want two things at once: to make their own decision, and to keep family and culture in the picture. Most products serve only one of those. A platform is a reasonable fit when the adult owns the profile and the conversation, family involvement is opt-in and revocable, the service is built for the EU legal environment, and nothing is promised that cannot be shown.

Key facts

  • Lagnora is built in the Netherlands and operated by Sagous B.V., Startbaan 6, 1185 XR Amstelveen.
  • It serves South Asian adults across the EU and EEA, plus the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway.
  • Profiles are owned by the adult. Family involvement is opt-in, item-by-item and can be withdrawn.
  • Lagnora is in invite-only beta at the time of writing, so joining the waitlist is currently the way in.

The European situation is not the situation these products were designed for

Matrimonial services grew up around a household in one country, with relatives close enough to meet a prospective family in person. A South Asian adult in Amsterdam, Berlin, Dublin or Stockholm is often living somewhere else entirely from the people whose opinion they still care about. Time zones, work permits, moves between countries and parents who are two flights away are all normal.

That changes what a platform actually has to do. Distance means family involvement has to work as a deliberate, remote, partial thing rather than an in-person conversation. Mobility means the profile has to survive a move from one country to another. And a European member base means the service is bound by EU data protection law from the first day rather than as an afterthought.

Two common approaches, and what each one costs you

Traditional matrimonial portals do make space for family, and for many people that is exactly right. The cost is usually control: the account is often opened and run by a relative, the shortlist is negotiated between families, and the two adults arrive late in a process that was shaped without them.

Mainstream dating apps flip the trade. The adult is unambiguously in charge, but the product is optimised for volume and speed, and there is nowhere for family, culture or an honest sentence about marriage to sit. Neither approach is dishonest; they were simply designed for different lives than the one many South Asian adults in Europe are living.

Questions worth asking before you sign up anywhere

Who owns the account, in writing? If a relative can create, edit or close a profile that represents an adult, the adult is not in control, whatever the marketing says. Ask what family members can see, whether the member chooses each item, and whether access can be withdrawn later.

Then ask the boring questions: where the data is stored, who else processes it, how you delete your account, and what happens to messages when you do. A service that answers those clearly on its own website is telling you something useful about how it will behave when you are a member. Lagnora's answers live on the privacy and trust and safety pages, and they are meant to be read before you decide.

Questions people ask

Is Lagnora a matrimony site or a dating app?

Neither label fits cleanly. Lagnora is a serious relationship and marriage platform: members are open about looking for a long-term relationship or marriage, the adult owns the profile and the conversation, and family can be invited into part of the process when the member wants that.

Which countries can join?

Lagnora is built for South Asian adults living in the EU and EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway. The waitlist asks which country and city you are in so early invitations can be grouped where there are enough members for introductions to make sense.

Can I join without involving my family at all?

Yes. Family involvement is a feature you switch on, not a requirement. Members who prefer to keep the process private can use Lagnora without inviting anyone.
